SAT & ACT Information

Applying for College?
Take the ACT or SAT

Both are college entrance exams. The ACT is comprised of English, math, social studies and science. SAT is just English and math. ACT gives you points for correct answers, SAT takes points away for incorrect answers.

ACT vs. SAT

Old SAT vs. New SAT

Register for ACT at www.act.org

Register for SAT at www.collegeboard.org

Most four year public and private Colleges and Universities require one of these tests. Ideally students should take them in the Spring of Junior year; if an additional test is needed then the fall of senior year is an option. Either the SAT or ACT is acceptable at all institutions, some private institutions will require the writing portion of the exam or subject tests. Please take a few minutes to look over the websites and discuss with your counselor which option is right for you. The registration is all done online and specific requirements must be met for entrance to the exam. Students will need to come prepared with pencils, calculator and identification to the testing site. Local testing sites are in Horseheads and Corning.

The sites below will assist you in determining the best options for your student.
