It's Homecoming Weekend in The Heights! Spirit Week has been a great success, and the best is yet to come!! Tonight's events start off with the Pep Rally at 6PM in Oakridge Park where we will recognize all fall sports teams. Then it is SNAKE DANCE time!! High school students will form up at Oakridge Park at about 6:15pm and wind their way to the Heights Cinderella Softball Fields for the annual bonfire! Saturday the Spartan Football team faces off with Groton at Northop Field with kick-off at 1:30. Homecoming Court festivities happen at halftime of the game. Also on Saturday, the Homecoming Dance takes place from 6pm to 9pm at the TAE Gym. We look forward to a great weekend of festivities in the Orange and Blue!!

FEMA has scheduled a nationwide test of emergency alert systems for ~2:20 pm on Wednesday, Oct 4.
On October 4, 2023, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) test.
The test includes sending a "test message" to all televisions, radios, and cell phones.
At approximately 2:20 pm Eastern Standard Time, all powered on cellphones within range of a cell tower will receive a test alert message as part of FEMA’s nationwide test of its Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS).
School and district administrators are encouraged to communicate this information to staff, students and parents as the test will occur during school hours, and in some cases coincide with school dismissal time.

Safety Drill conducted today, September 29, 2023: Earlier today we conducted a successful Lockdown Drill across all buildings in the District. This is a part of our regular safety efforts. This was ONLY a drill. We were very pleased with our students and staff's attention to the important nature of this drill. If you or your student have any questions or concerns please contact the Main Office of the school. Thank you again students and staff!

Traffic flow through parking lots at TAE is currently impacted by tree removal.
Please be careful when using the parking lots at TAE for the next week. Traffic patterns will be impacted. We will be attempting to keep the normal flow from being impacted during student arrival and at dismissal. Parking lot access may be limited during the course of the day from now until 9/22/2023 while we deal with our damaged and falling tree limb concerns.

Tree Removal at TAE Wednesday Sept. 13, 2023 due to potential dangerous circumstances.
Out of an abundance of caution we are having 7 trees taken down at the South end of the Thomas A. Edison HS building, near the District Office TOMORROW, Wednesday 9/13/2023. The traffic pattern heading South out of the parking lots will be adapted around this area at TAE.
Over the past two weeks these trees have lost several large branches creating a safety concern. Having consulted with a tree agency it has been determined we need to immediately remove 7 trees which are in similar conditions to the one which has lost several large limbs. We are also engaging a tree expert to assess trees on both of our campuses as we know that many of them are older trees.
While we do love the shade they offer, and how beautiful they can be, safety is our first priority.

We hope your summer has been amazing so far and your student(s) are having equal parts rest and fun!
We wanted to reach out and share a flyer with you that details all the important things to know prior to the 2023-2024 school year starting. Inside this flyer you'll find supply lists, important dates and FAQs. I'm also inserting a YouTube link (below) that shows students how to open a locker and which hook to hang their backpacks on. This is important because far too often lockers get jammed with backpacks being hung on the side hooks. Lockers are an important part of a middle school student's life as they will have the ability to access them throughout the day while also storing their jackets, bags, cellphone, extra shoes, school supplies, etc. We take it very slow during the first few days of school, allowing ample time for students to get comfortable opening their lockers. All staff will be assisting students getting into their lockers during the opening week. This should not be a source of stress for your student so please communicate to your child that we know nothing will be perfect during the first two weeks of school and that is OKAY. We anticipate students struggling with lockers, having questions with schedules, and all other things that are tricky with navigating the start to a school year. All staff are here to assist and support to ensure your child has a great start to the 2023-2024 school year.

As noted in the flyer, I am happy to provide tours of the building starting August 7th. However, our maintenance team works hard all summer prepping the building so some sections of the school may not be accessible. If any 6th grade/new student would like to get a sneak peak of CMS, please contact me.

Attention Elmira Heights Soccer Players and Fans! Elmira Heights CSD is now offering modified soccer for boys and girls. However, we do not have enough to start both teams! There are only eight players signed up for each team and we need to at least double these numbers to have both soccer teams. We are extending the deadline to sign up to July 14th! If you are interested in having your 7th, 8th, or 9th grade student play soccer for the Heights, please contact our Athletic Director, Mike Bennett (mbennett@heightsschools.com). Please spread the word and let's get these modified teams on the field this fall!

Voting has started on the 2023-24 Elmira Heights CSD Annual Budget. District residents can vote now until 8 PM. Voting takes place at Thomas A. Edison High School gymnasium. Use the entrance where the big orange tent is set up.
Elmira Heights CSD Community - you are invited to meet our Cohen Elementary Principal Search Finalists on Tuesday May 9th, from 6pm to 9pm at the Cohen Auditorium.
Finalists will answer pre-established questions and share information about themselves and their professional experiences to the community in three separate sessions starting at 6pm.
Those attending will be asked to fill out a feedback form for each candidate.
Please note that these sessions are 45 minutes long for each candidate, and are not designed for young children.
